About Us

Colorado College (“CC”) is a private, four-year, highly selective liberal arts college of 2,100 undergraduate students and a small Master of Arts in teaching program. It is located on a 99-acre campus adjacent to downtown, ‘Olympic City’, Colorado Springs. The campus sits on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains at the foot of Pikes Peak. The college operates an innovative curricular approach, known as the Block Plan, which entails students taking one course at a time for three and a half weeks, with the academic year divided into eight “blocks.” The Colorado College Department of Athletics sponsors 17 varsity programs. Fifteen programs compete at the NCAA Division III level and two at the Division I level. Division III programs are members of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), with the exception of Men’s Lacrosse (independent) and Women’s Lacrosse (WIAC affiliate). Division I Men’s Hockey is a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC), and Division I Women’s Soccer competes as an affiliate member of the Mountain West Conference (MWC).

Job Summary

Reporting to the head coach and adhering to the head coach philosophy the assistant coach will support the Head Hockey Coach in all aspects of operating a highly competitive Division I program. Assistance will include, but is not limited to, recruiting and retaining qualified student-athletes, practice planning, scouting, scheduling, travel arrangements, program promotion, budget management, supervision of academic progress, alumni engagement, working with divisional and campus leadership

Responsibilities

  • Assist with mentoring student athletes to foster athletic, academic, emotional, and social growth; assist Head Coach in establishing and enforcing rules of conduct and team policies.
  • Assist connecting student-athletes to divisional and campus resources to maximize support and education around the core guarantees model.
  • Assist the head coach in practice planning, skill development, game planning, opponent scouting.
  • Assist with game day coaching and strategy.
  • Work productively and collaboratively as part of a coaching staff with a student and team centered focus.
  • Assist the head coach in all areas of recruitment and retention of prospective student athletes including prospect evaluation, prospect selection through a process that promotes diversity and inclusion, on and off campus visits, and contacts.
  • Assist with prospective student athletes through processes such as admissions, NCAA Eligibility and compliance.
  • Utilize video editing systems for player and team development, and opponent preparation.
  • Maintain strict adherence to Colorado College, NCHC, and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Assist in program fund raising, alumni relations, clinics, and community service projects.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of campus and community outreach initiatives.
  • Responsible for role modelling behaviors and leadership for student-athletes
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or sport administrator.
  • This position requires candidates to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and be able to travel extensively via ground transportation as well as air travel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required plus a minimum of 5 years of combined experience playing and/or coaching men’s ice hockey at a championship level.
  • Possess excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer skills to include Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams and Excel, and basic knowledge scouting software, recruiting software, social media platforms and video editing software
  • Proven ability to develop strong working relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socio-economic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of human diversity; available to work evening and weekend hours and to travel extensively, often by airplane.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is insurable by Colorado College’s motor vehicle insurance carrier.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

  • $85,500 - $90,000 per year
