Position Summary

The Town of Breckenridge Recreation Department is seeking a dedicated, customer-service-oriented Certified Ice Hockey Official. This position is responsible for officiating adult ice hockey games at the Stephen C. West Ice Arena while ensuring a safe, fair, and professional playing environment. Officials apply USA Hockey and Town of Breckenridge Adult Hockey League rules, call penalties and violations, inspect the ice surface and equipment for safety, and review score sheets and disciplinary issues as needed.

Ice Hockey Officials monitor player behavior before, during, and after games; enforce rules and sportsmanship; and professionally manage disputes involving players, officials, or spectators. This role requires strong leadership on the ice, sound knowledge of hockey officiating practices, and the ability to represent the Town of Breckenridge and its hockey programs in a positive and professional manner.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Two (2) or more years of hockey playing experience required.
  • Must possess excellent skating skills.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of USA Hockey rules via work history and/or playing experience.
  • Must be able to handle stressful situations in a tactful, professional manner while communicating effectively and courteously.
  • Must have at least one (1) year of customer service experience. 
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
  • Basic CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications required within 60 day of hire.
  • Preventing Disease Transmission (PDT) required within 60 days of hire. 
  • USA Hockey-(Level 1, 2, 3, or 4) or CHA Officiating Certification.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least one (1) year of ice hockey officiating experience upper level youth and/or competitive high school/adult games.
  • One (1) or more years experience playing hockey at the high school or college level.

Additional Information

Typical Hiring Pay Range: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour.

WORK SCHEDULE
Primary shifts for this position generally include Sunday – Friday evenings, from 5:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. (schedule varies based on leagues). Individuals in this position must be flexible in terms of availability; and may on occasion be required to work other shifts as needed, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.
