Job Summary

 

Leading a competitive NCAA Division III women’s ice hockey program that aligns with the University mission, fosters academic and competitive success, and adheres to the NCAA Division III philosophy. Responsible for the administration and development of the program.  Develops budget, schedule, travel and equipment needs. 

 

Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,000  

 

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work within the university mission to provide a competitive, unique, and memorable collegiate athletic experience for student-athletes.
  • Instruct and observe student-athletes in individual and team skills.
  • Recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes within the scope of MIAC, NCAA, and university guidelines as well as reaching annual recruiting goals.
  • Monitor team and individual academic success and degree completion.
  • Maintain a program compliant with NCAA, MIAC, and university rules and guidelines.
  • Build, develop, and maintain contacts and relations with athletic alumni, high school and club coaches and benefactors.
  • Partner with the development office to raise funds for the program in conjunction with university, department, MIAC, NCAA guidelines.
  • Oversee all necessary administrative responsibilities for the program including budget management and prompt submissions of expenses.
  • Coordinate, supervise and mentor assistant coaches.
  • Perform secondary duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.

 

Qualifications

Experience and Education Requirements

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree required, master's degree preferred.
  • Experience with competitive coaching at the high school, collegiate, and/or club level required. 
  • This 12-month position requires regular travel and the ability to work nights and weekends.
  • May consider other acceptable equivalent combinations of training and experience.

 

Essential Knowledge & Skills

  • Effectively instruct players on the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
  • Possesses outstanding communication skills and is able to work with numerous internal staff and constituents.
  • Leadership, Culture building, and motivational abilities.
  • Highly effective recruiting skills.
  • Work cooperatively with athletic conference peers and officials.
  • Uphold the marketing brand and positive image of Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.
  • Observes safety guidelines and follows safety procedures established by the university.

 

Physical Demands

  • Medium work. Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
