The Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County Aquatics and Athletic Facilities Division is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Ice Hockey Director to join our team at Tucker Road Ice Rink. Examples of Important Duties

  • Program Management
    Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate hockey-related programs including Learn-to-Play, power skating, leagues, clinics, camps, and tournaments.
  • Staff Leadership
    Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise part-time coaches, instructors, and volunteer staff. Ensure compliance with USA Hockey standards. Conduct performance appraisals and facilitate required trainings (e.g., CPR/First Aid, Defensive Driving, Youth Camp Standards).
  • Facility Operations Support
    Assist in rink operations and work closely with facility management to ensure smooth program delivery.
  • Customer Service
    Provide high-quality service to participants, parents, and visitors. Promote a positive, professional, and inclusive environment.
  • Special Events
     Plan and coordinate hockey-related events such as tournaments, themed skates, National Skating Month, and Hockey Weekend.
  • Budget & Administration
    Assist with budgeting, revenue projections, instructor payroll, scheduling, and program registration. Maintain accurate records and reports related to programs, staff, equipment, and supplies.
  • Community & Stakeholder Engagement
    Serve as a liaison with local hockey associations, schools, and community organizations. Attend meetings and represent the facility in public or stakeholder forums.
  • Marketing & Promotion
    Collaborate with facility staff and the marketing department to promote programs and events through digital media, flyers, brochures, and the Recreation Guide. Assist in content development for social media and website updates.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management, Physical Education, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience programming, facility operations, or related area.
  • Must hold a valid USA Hockey Coaching Certification.
  • Possess a combination of education, experience, or certification
  • Valid driver’s license (or ability to acquire one).

 

Preferred

  • Previous playing and coaching experience in ice hockey is strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain additional required certification (e.g. CPR/First Aid).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of USA Hockey programs, rules, and best practices.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and age groups.
  • Energetic, approachable, and collaborative mindset.
  • Passion for growing the game of hockey at the grassroots level.
  • Other duties as assigned

Work hours

  • Part-time, year-round seasonal hours
  • Flexible schedule includes evenings, weekdays, and weekends. Tucker Road Ice Rink is open year-round.

Working Conditions/Environment

  • Work is performed primarily in an indoor ice skating rink, with occasional outdoor activities
  • Knowledge of ice hockey techniques, progressions, and safety standards
  • Active environment requiring physical movement and demonstrating skills
  • Other duties as assigned

Supplemental information

  • Position is seasonal (part-time) and does not include benefits. Wages are based on experience and qualifications and range from $27.00-$35.00/hr.
  • Employment is contingent upon a favorable background check.
