Position Summary
The Fessenden School seeks an experienced and passionate Hockey Coach to work with boys in Grades 7โ9. The JV Hockey Coach will foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth while instilling a strong understanding and appreciation of hockey. The ideal candidate will emphasize the schoolโs core values of honesty, compassion, and respect while coaching students to develop their skills and character on and off the ice. This is a seasonal position running from December 1st 2026, to March 5th, 2027, with daily practices held at the Fessenden Ice Rink on our Main Campus.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach and Model Core Values: Inspire students to practice honesty, compassion, and respect through sportsmanship, teamwork, and perseverance.
- Plan and Lead Practices: Oversee daily practices (various times, typically from 4:30-5:40 pm), teaching hockey techniques, strategies, and self-care to support physical and mental development.
- Mentor Student-Athletes: Develop relationships with students to build their confidence, resilience, and leadership skills both on and off the ice.
- Collaborate with Assistant Coach: Partner on seating decisions, training plans, equipment maintenance, and race preparation.
- Instill Respect for the Ice: Teach students their responsibilities in the rink, including locker room etiquette, skating safety, and stewardship of the equipment and environment.
- Ensure Safety: Supervise students during practice sessions and competitions
- Drive Team Transportation: Occasionally transport students to and from games in a school van.
Schedule
- December 1, 2026 - March 5, 2027
- Daily practice will last for 1 hour and be between the hours of 2:15 PM and 4:30 PM. There are also home and away games that happen on school days.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Prior experience coaching hockey or equivalent experience as a competitive hockey player.
- Strong understanding of hockey technique and game preparation.
- Enthusiasm for working with middle school students and fostering their growth.
- Ability to build meaningful relationships and promote a positive, inclusive team culture.
- Active and valid driverโs license.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of coaching experience.
- Hockey experience at the collegiate level.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.ย
Compensation
The range for this position is $4,000-$5,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
