WinSport’s Summer Evening Hockey Camps offer a dynamic on‑ice experience for young athletes. Participants explore skating fundamentals, puck control, passing, shooting, and gameplay concepts. Our guiding principles include building confidence, developing core hockey skills, fostering teamwork, and creating meaningful connections through sport.

This evening camp leadership position plays a key role in delivering a high‑quality, safe, and progressive on-ice hockey camp experience for participants ages 5–14. The Lead Instructor provides directions to a team of instructors. They are accountable for managing ice sessions, group flow, safety, and skill progression for up to 36 participants.

Lead Instructors adapt their coaching approach based on age, ability, and experience level, ensuring that younger groups (ages 5–8) experience engaging play‑based development, while older groups (ages 9–14) receive structured, progressive skill instruction and game‑based learning.

What you will be doing:

Program Execution

  • Provide leadership and direction during all on‑ice sessions, including station design, drill execution, and flow management.
  • Oversee up to 36 participants and supervise a team of 4 instructors, ensuring consistent delivery of lesson plans and teaching standards.
  • Ensure the safety, well‑being, and exceptional experience of participants aged 5–14.
  • Implement appropriate skill progressions and modify instruction based on individual or group needs.
  • Provide coaching mentorship and on‑ice feedback to instructors to ensure high‑quality program delivery.
  • Lead and support the development of weekly lesson plans and training progression for your assigned groups.
  • Coordinate daily set‑up and tear‑down of equipment and training spaces.
  • Ensure accurate attendance, participant information, and all required records are maintained.

Leading Children and Youth

  • Serve as a positive role model for young athletes ages 5–14 and for fellow team members.
  • Guide participants in developing teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
  • Manage and mediate participant conflicts fairly and consistently.
  • Actively participate in games, activities, and demonstrations — bring high energy and enthusiasm.

Communication

  • Communicate in a way that empowers campers and team members when delivering feedback.
  • Communicate professionally with parents/guardians regarding participant needs, progress, and daily updates.
  • Adjust communication style to best fit the age, ability, or context of the audience.

Other Duties as Required

  • Support daily logistics, equipment handling, administrative tasks, and camp operations.
  • Represent WinSport with professionalism, enthusiasm, and alignment to organizational values.

 

Employment Dates & Times

  • Must be available for training August 6th from 5p-9p.
  • Must be available from August 10th to 28th (Monday to Friday from 4:30p-9:45p).
    • Hours are not guaranteed and are dependent on registrations.

 

What you bring

  • Must be able to coach Power Skating, Hockey Skills and Evaluation Prep Camps.
  • Advanced hockey background including playing, high‑level coaching, or instructor leadership experience.
  • Experience working with youth in sport environments.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR‑C certification required
  • NCCP (Hockey Canada and/or Multisport) certifications considered an asset.
  • Experience coaching participants of various ages; experience coaching other sports is an asset.
  • Post‑secondary education in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Education, Sport Administration, or related fields is an asset.

 

Work Conditions:

  • Ability to skate, instruct, and participate in high‑energy sport activities for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull equipment as required.
  • Ability to work in cold arena environments for long durations.
  • Maintain a high level of positive energy and focus throughout each camp day.
