We are looking for part-time Ice Hockey Instructors to join us on LA Kings Ice at Mammoth Lakes in our new Community Recreation Center (CRC) facility! This position is ideal for anyone with strong ice hockey skills and experience instructing students of all ages.Β As an Ice Hockey Instructor for the Town of Mammoth Lakes, you will provide instruction for private and group ice hockey lessons, for youth and adults, and will work approximately 15 hours per week during the LA Kings Ice at Mammoth Lakes season.

Previous experience and/or certification required.

Receives general supervision from the Recreation Supervisor(s) and indirect supervision from the Recreation Manager.

Examples of Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain close surveillance of persons on and around the ice for potential emergencies and safety hazards; enforce rules and regulations.
  • Instruct a variety of ice hockey classes, lessons, and programs.
  • Maintain a variety of daily checklists and maintenance records.
  • Register pupils for ice hockey lessons and league programs.
  • Accept payment of fees; prepare and issue receipts; maintain records and files.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Safety techniques.
  • Ice rink facilities and the equipment related to hockey programs.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety precautions.
  • General cash handling procedures.
Ability to:
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • React with good judgment in an emergency situation.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Work an irregular schedule, including early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Perform general clerical work, including maintenance of appropriate records and compiling information for reports.
Experience and Training:
Any combination of education, experience, and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Β A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education:

No minimum education requirements.

Experience:

One year of experience as a Ice Skating or Ice Hockey Recreation Instructor is desirable. Β Some experience with cash handling is desirable.

Licenses:

Possession of or ability to obtain prior to beginning work:

  • First Aid, CPR, and AED Certificates.
  • Any other certificates which may be legally required.
