Winthrop High School is seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and student-centered individual to serve as the Head Coach for the Girls Varsity Ice Hockey program. The ideal candidate will foster a positive team culture, promote sportsmanship and citizenship, and support the academic and personal development of student-athletes.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and conduct all practices and games for the varsity girls hockey team
Develop student-athletesβ skills, teamwork, and understanding of the game
Promote a culture of respect, accountability, and sportsmanship
Ensure compliance with all school, league, and state athletic association rules and regulations
Supervise assistant coaches and collaborate on program development
Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, school administration, and athletic department staff
Monitor academic progress and reinforce the importance of academic success
Coordinate team logistics including scheduling, transportation, equipment, and uniforms
Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all participants
Qualifications
Previous coaching experience in ice hockey (high school or higher preferred)
Strong knowledge of hockey fundamentals, strategy, and skill development
Ability to motivate and mentor high school student-athletes
Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Completion of required coaching certifications (e.g., state athletic association/NFHS courses)
Must meet all school district and state background check requirements
