    Qualifications:  The Assistant coaching position is responsible for providing strong leadership and guidance to both student-athletes and assistant coaches within the program. The assistant coach works closely with the Activities Directors and other coaches to work towards the goals and direction of the program. Additionally, the assistant coach is accountable for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of every student-athlete participating in Northern Edge Hockey.

    Preferred:  Previous coaching experience at the high school level (or extensive experience working with developmental players); possession of a MN coaching certificate or completion of the MSHSL/National Federation Interscholastic Coaches Education Program; and a deep knowledge of the sport.

    • Defines success not only by wins, but by helping team members achieve their personal and collective goals.

    Major Areas of Responsibility:
    • Develop and organize effective practices that teach the necessary skills for athletes to compete successfully in our conference.
    • Foster good sportsmanship and fair play by modeling these values and adhering to the Coaches’ Code of Ethics and our conference Sportsmanship Guidelines.
    • Adhere to season start and end dates and rules regarding out-of-season coaching, as determined by the MSHSL.
    • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of team members during practices, matches, and transportation to and from games, including oversight of the locker room when possible.
    • Maintain positive relationships with athletes and parents, promoting open communication and trust.
    • Assist with the distribution and collection of equipment in a timely manner, ensuring athletes understand their responsibility for the use and return of athletic equipment/uniforms. The coach is responsible for collecting all issued items.
    • Assist in arranging a postseason gathering and inform the athletic administrative assistant of any certificates that are needed.
    • Complete a post-season report with required information as outlined by the Activities Director.
    • Actively recruit athletes at the youth, middle school, and high school levels.
    • Complete district-required Vector Training modules for coaches.
    • Participate in MSHSL safety training for coaches.
    • Represent the program positively within the school and broader community.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
