    Steamboat Springs High School is seeking an Assistant Hockey Coach for the upcoming season.  11/10/2025-03/02/2026
    Stipend range spread across season months: $3,880.00 - $5,279.00, depending on experience. 

    Job Summary:

    A high school assistant coach has many responsibilities.  A summary and listing of some of those responsibilities are outlined below.  The assistant coach will:
    1. Support the head coach in conducting a parent/student/coach meeting at the beginning of each season.  At that meeting, have written guidelines/handbook available for the parents and students that outlines your practice, attendance, lettering criteria, participation policies and behavior expectations for your players/participants. This should include a document signed by parents and participants agreeing to the information presented.
    2. Communicate effectively and regularly with the head coach, student participants/team members, their parents and program coaches/sponsors so that expectations and procedure are clear.
    3. Provide and continually update the head coach, or athletic director as to any issues in your program. 
    4. Never allow an athlete/participant to practice or play/participate until cleared by the SSHS Athletic Department.
    5. Follow and uphold all Steamboat Springs High School eligibility policies and procedures, maintain current CHSAA coaching registration, current first aide certification and successfully pass the CHSAA coaching test and NFHS concussion course each school year.
    6. Always conduct themselves in an ethical and professional manner and promote to the team/group members a healthy lifestyle with respect to use/abuse of drugs, alcohol, tobacco and steroids.
    7. Operate with the understanding and requirement that they are a supervising adult for all athletic or other activity participation at the school and also from the time the team/group leaves the school until all students have been picked up by their parents upon return of the team/group.
    8. Take ownership for the care and security of your program equipment.  Follow the uniform/equipment check out procedures and account for all student use and support the head coach to collect, inventory and properly store all uniforms/equipment within two weeks of the end of the season.
    9. Support the head coach in conducting an end of season awards ceremony to recognize the hard work of the students such as lettering, league and state awards and special accomplishments.  Also, use the occasion as a way of thanking your other coaches/sponsors and parents for their assistance during the season/activity period.
    10. Represent and advocate for our high school and your sport/activity by attending appropriate league, region and state meetings, as well as clinics, SSHS leadership seminars and professional development opportunities.

    Qualifications:
    It is the responsibility of the Asst. Head Coach to meet the Coaching Certification requirements of the State of Colorado, Steamboat Springs High School, and the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA), and to perform the services prescribed for this position by the Board of Education or its designated representative.
    • High School diploma or equivalent
    • Experience in competitive sports preferred 
    • Ability to maintain discipline with large groups of students
    • Ability to work independently without direct supervision
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with students, staff, co-workers, administrators and parents.
    • Physically able to perform the following on a daily basis
    • Ability to lift items weighing 50 pounds from floor level to an elevation of four feet
    • Ability to stand for long periods of time, withstand frequent pushing, pulling, squatting, and reaching
    • Ability to withstand exposure to the outdoor elements including extreme cold, extreme heat, rain, snow and other mountain climatic conditions
    • Possess sufficient manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to perform responsibilities as described
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality
