Boys Ice Hockey - Varsity Head Coach The Scarsdale Public Schools are seeking a dynamic and team-oriented individual who exhibits a love of learning and a genuine interest in the social, emotional, mental, and physical health of student-athletes. The ideal candidate will have experience coaching student-athletes in the sport of ice hockey with demonstrated success in player development. Ā The ability to design experiences for players to interpret the game and to respond effectively is essential. Ā A successful candidate will lead and collaborate with other coaches within the program. Ā Working knowledge of an educational interscholastic program is preferred. Prior successful experience coaching at the varsity level is preferred.
NYS certification in physical education or a coaching license is required.Ā

QUALIFICATIONS:Ā
- Has the ability to leadĀ inĀ theĀ organizationĀ and supervision of a varsity-level ice hockey program.
- Has previous successful coaching experience in ice hockey. Ā
- TheĀ coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sportĀ and, at the same time, must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent toĀ the field.
- TheĀ coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes throughĀ his/her instructions and actions.
- Ability to build and sustain a positive, inclusive, and competitive program culture.

JOB GOAL:
To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical trainingĀ necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the sameĀ time, the coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to sociallyĀ acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride ofĀ accomplishment in the student athletes. To upgrade his/her knowledge and skillsĀ through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc.Ā

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Ā
- Has a thorough knowledge of all the athletic policies approved by the Scarsdale PublicĀ Ā Schools' Board of Education and is responsible for their implementation by the entire staff of theĀ sports program.
- Has knowledge of existing system, state, and league regulations andĀ implements themĀ consistently.
- Assists the programĀ in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sports events or practices and adheres toĀ scheduled facility times.
- Serves as a mentor to each athlete to promote the development and demonstration in student athletesĀ the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
- Monitors a student athlete's grades and conduct.
- Follow procedures concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
- Aids in the management and use of equipment and instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property.
- Responsible for maintaining good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials,Ā volunteers, and fans.
- Presents information to news media concerning schedules, tournaments, and results.Ā
