    Position Title: Cheer Head Coach - Hockey Greenway

    Job Summary: The head coach is fully responsible for the organization and instruction of the varsity hockey cheer team both during and outside of the season. The role includes teaching cheerleading fundamentals, promoting positive team and school culture/spirit, ensuring student safety, and fostering a positive and inclusive team environment. The coach will collaborate with school administration (AD), the Greenway Joint Rec Director/Arena Manager, student participants, and families to build a program that supports athletic events and represents the school with enthusiasm, respect, and pride.

     

    Qualifications

     
    • Prior experience in cheerleading, coaching, or a related activity preferred.

    • Knowledge of cheerleading techniques, stunts, safety protocols, and crowd leadership.

    • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

    • Ability to positively motivate and mentor high school students.

    • Must meet district/state coaching requirements (e.g., background check, first aid/CPR certification, concussion training, or coaching certification as required).

     

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    As the Head Coach, he/she:

     
    1. Develop mission/vision statements and statements of philosophy/program guidelines to be shared with all appropriate stakeholders and respective district activities directors.

    2. Plan, organize, and conduct regular practices focusing on cheer technique, chants, stunts, and routines.

    3. Supervise cheerleaders during practices, games, performances, and school-related events.

    4. Coordinates ice time as needed with the Greenway Joint Rec Director/Arena Manager.

    5. Keeps practice periods for his/her sport within the confines of the time specified by the Activities Director; and is to keep the Activities Director informed of practice schedules during any non-school or holiday period.

    6. Ensure the safety of all participants by teaching and enforcing proper techniques and safety standards.

    7. Lead cheer squads at home hockey games (and designated away or post-season games approved by activity administrators).

    8. Support development of the cheer program by planning and implementing opportunities for youth to learn about and participate in cheerleading activities or events within the district,  including potentially with community education programs/offerings.

    9. Collaborate with athletic staff to promote school spirit and support student-athletes.

    10. Coordinate and organize pep rallies, assemblies, or other spirit activities when assigned.

    11. Model and teach sportsmanship, leadership, teamwork, and school pride.

    12. Build positive relationships with student-athletes while maintaining appropriate boundaries.

    13. Provide appropriate guidance and mentorship to students both on and off the ice.

    14. Maintain attendance, eligibility, and performance expectations for cheerleaders.

    15. Communicate regularly with parents/guardians, arena staff, school staff, and school/activity administrators.

    16. Manage uniforms, equipment, and program budget as directed.

    17. Is responsible for adhering to all district policies and procedures for student participation, including checking for completed registration.

    18. Adheres to the Code of Ethics for high school coaches (attached).

    19. Maintains responsibility for the general health and welfare of students in his/her program and gives appropriate attention to athletes who are injured or ill or otherwise incapacitated.

    20. Annually develop appropriate emergency action plans to be submitted to activities directors.

    21. Participates in and adheres to all formal observation and evaluation requirements as set forth by the activities directors. Receives and reflects upon annual survey feedback from parents and players.

    22. Seeks and engages in sport-specific professional development opportunities (clinics, camps, etc.)

    23. Makes recommendations for letter awards and is responsible for clarification of the award policy to athletes and parents in writing at the start of the season. Submits names for letter winners to the AD office on an appropriate timeline prior to needing certificates or awards for banquets, etc.

    24. Must meet licensing requirements as set forth by the Minnesota Department of Education and the MSHSL and meet the following requirements:
          a. Maintains an open account on the MSHSL site: Coach’s Dashboard
          b. Meets all Continuing Education requirements as dictated by the MSHSL.
          c. Oversees the requirements of lower level coaches required by the MSHSL.
          d. Is responsible for the actions and conduct of his/her team.

    25. Providing updated rosters to the activities directors of both schools.

    26. Works with booster clubs or parent volunteers to coordinate any necessary fundraisers. Has all fundraisers pre-approved by school board action through submitting them to activities directors at least one month in advance of the fundraiser.
