    Willmar Public Schools is currently seeking applicants for the position of Head Boys Hockey Coach.

     

    A Coach is responsible for overseeing the development and success of student-athletes or participants in a specific athletic or activity program. This role includes planning and conducting practice sessions, promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill development and ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants. The Coach collaborates with other staff, maintains communication with parents, and supports the academic and personal growth of students. Additional duties may include assisting with team selection, managing equipment, organizing events or competitions, and representing the program within the school and community.

    Practices: M-F 3:00-5:00 PM (Apart from gamedays). Games: 3:30- 6:30 (Away games will cause ending times to vary). November 2025-March 2026

    Benefits for this position are limited due to the limited and variable nature of the role.  Benefits may be adjusted as the role becomes a long-term position.

    Qualifications Required

    •   Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff in both individual and group settings.
     
    • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve their best.
    • Knowledge of safety protocols, injury prevention, and first aid, with a commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all participants.
    • Ability to create a positive, inclusive, and respectful team culture that emphasizes teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal development.
    • Availability to attend practices, games, and other team-related events, including evenings and weekends as required.
    • Must have completed the MSHSL Head Coaching Certification or equivalent. 
    • Must possess thorough knowledge of hockey: skills development, game strategy, situational preparedness and student/athlete development in hockey and personal growth/maturity. 
    • Expected to have a plan in place for the hockey program from the Varsity through beginning hockey and will be expected to work in depth with Willmar youth hockey to develop a cohesive program from top to bottom. 
    • Must have complete knowledge and understanding of all MSHSL and district policies and practices and develop the program within them.
