    SUMMARY
    To help each participating student to achieve a high level of skill, an understanding of the strategies of the game, an appreciation for the values of discipline, sportsmanship and team work, and an increased level of self-esteem.  

    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

    ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Must have regular, reliable and punctual attendance
    • Possess knowledge of sport, skills and techniques from fundamentals to game planning and strategies appropriate to the level of competition
    • Possess knowledge of rules of sport and ability to relay and enforce those rules to student athletes
    • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and possesses the ability to work with student athletes and communicate with parents
    • Create a physically and emotionally safe environment for student athletes
    • Understanding of Michigan High School Athletic Association rules and regulations
    • Model and teach ethical behavior
    • Ability to perform assigned responsibilities
    • First Aid and CPR Certification emergency procedures
    • This position is responsible for coaching and providing direction to the student athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill, as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork in Hockey
    • This position contributes to the educational program as a whole and the growth of the students
    • Instructs and teaches skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement on ice, off ice, and through video review
    • Develops appropriate training programs, scouting sessions, video sessions and practice schedules
    • Monitoring student athlete mental and physical performance and inform necessary parties with any concerns
    • Ensures proper cleaning, storage and maintenance of all athletic equipment, uniforms and updated inventories are prepared in collaboration with LU Board
    • Ensures appropriate behavior of student athletes including locker room, bus, practices, etc
    • Follows MHSAA rules and Adrian Public School's regulations regarding conduct and eligibility of athletic activities
    • Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes in accordance with MHSAA and LU (Lenawee United) guidelines
    • Follow all MHSAA rules and Guidelines, including appropriate certification for coaches
    • Reports rosters to the LU Board in a timely manner
    • Provides a proper end of the year report including needed items as deemed by the LU Board
    • Professionally represents the LU Board and all participating districts in interactions with students, parents, community, staff and the media
    • Other duties as assigned.


    SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
    Supervise assistant coaches.
    Supervise any volunteers.
    Supervise student athletes in that sport.
    Supervise any students or persons associated with that sport.

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
    Valid teaching certificate is preferred although not required. Hrs. in physical education or equivalent hours and courses in coaching theory are helpful. Certification in CPR, First-aid is mandatory.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS
    The ability to read and interpret documents, instructional manuals, technical reports, procedures, and rulings. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students or employees.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
    The ability to calculate figures and amounts, to work with percentages, The ability to apply basic concepts in algebra and geometry. To have some computer literacy. The ability to work with statistics.

    REASONING ABILITY
    The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. The ability to problem solve various situations. The ability to use of sound judgment in making decisions that affect the program.

    OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
    Exhibit qualities of leadership. Have the ability to organize. Show a spirit of cooperation. Possess the ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field. Demonstrates the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Has the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Possess the ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policies.
     
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    While performing this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and sometimes to run. The employee will frequently stand and sometimes sit. The employee will frequently bend and twist at the trunk while performing his duties of this job. The employee will frequently squat, stoop, kneel, reach above his head, reach forward, and repeat the same motions many times while performing this task.
     
    The specific vision requirements of the job include good depth perception. The ability to see objects/persons at a distance. The employee is frequently required to hear conversation in a quiet as well as noisy environment. The employee must also be able to tell were sound is coming from. The employee must be able to communicate to the team in order to give direction. Noise levels are usually moderate to loud.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work inside or outside or at times both depending on the sporting event. The practice site may be different from the competition site. The employee will occasionally be asked to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The employee must be able to deal with staff and the public. The employee is responsible for the safety, well being and the out-put of work of all under their supervision.
