Phillips Academy seeks a dedicated and knowledgeable head varsity girls’ hockey coach with a start date of early September 2026.

The Head Varsity Girls Hockey Coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Andover girls’ hockey program, including, but not limited to: 

  • Planning and leading daily practice sessions, four days per week
  • Overseeing all aspects of game day as well as game-day preparations, typically 2-game days per week across the season with occasional 3-game weeks 
  • Working collaboratively with varsity assistant coaches as well as JV program coaches to encourage program continuity
  • Supporting out-of-season training that aligns with all Phillips Academy and NEPSAC policies and standards
  • Coordinating with athletic department on all details of team management including but not limited to, travel logistics, food and scheduling
  • Cultivating and overseeing a positive team culture
  • Promoting the Andover hockey program through social media and website recaps as well as recognition of individual player achievement within NEPSAC or beyond 
  • Monitoring and prioritizing student-athlete health and wellness
  • Working with admission office to support recruitment and matriculation of student-athletes 
  • As appropriate, partnering with players and college counseling in college athletic recruitment process

The strongest applicants will have the following qualifications:

  • Previous hockey coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and develop fundamental and advanced hockey skills
  • Ability to positively motivate, inspire, and serve as a role model to student-athletes
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, families, and colleagues
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive team environment
  • Interest in continued professional growth as a coach and educator

The competitive hockey season runs from late November through early March, with a commitment of approximately 30-35 hours per week (Monday–Saturday). Practice sessions are typically held between 3:15 p.m. - 6:30 p.m., with midweek and Saturday games. Away games on Wednesday often require an early afternoon (1:30 p.m.) departure from campus with longer away travel schedule to be expected on Saturdays. The hockey teams participates in a multiple-day holiday tournament in late December with overnight stay in local hotel.
