Description

The Summer Hockey Camp Instructor delivers fun, engaging, and developmentally appropriate instruction during a multi‑day summer hockey camp. Instructors lead both on‑ice and off‑ice activities while creating a safe, positive environment that promotes skill development, teamwork, and enjoyment of the game.

Essential Duties & Requirements: 

  • Lead high‑energy on‑ice instruction focusing on skating fundamentals, puck skills, shooting, small‑area games, and age‑appropriate hockey concepts.
  • Supervise and participate in off‑ice activities including dryland games, team-building activities, and camp programming.
  • Assist with weekly field trip to the local park district pool, ensuring camper safety, engagement, and positive behavior.
  • Adapt coaching methods to different ages, skill levels, and learning styles.
  • Promote sportsmanship, effort, teamwork, and respect at all times.
  • Maintain a safe environment by enforcing equipment requirements and following rink, camp, and USA Hockey/SafeSport guidelines.
  • Support daily camp operations including setup, transitions, and group management.
  • Represent the camp professionally when interacting with campers, parents, and staff.
  • Typical work day 8:30am-3:30pm.

Professional Expectations:

  • Arrive on time, prepared, and appropriately dressed for on‑ice and off‑ice activities.
  • Model enthusiasm, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
  • Maintain required background checks, SafeSport training, and certifications as applicable.

Hours/Schedule: 

  • Weekdays 8:30a-3:30pm
  • Schedule may vary based on enrollment

Pay Rate: 

  • $15-$18 per hour

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Strong skating and hockey skills with the ability to demonstrate fundamentals clearly.
  • Prior coaching or instructional experience preferred, especially with youth athletes.
  • Ability to lead a group with confidence, positivity, and patience.
  • Must enjoy working with children and creating an encouraging learning environment.
  • Must be 16 years or older
  • CPR/AED certified preferred
