ĀAssistant Varsity / Junior Varsity CoachĀ Ā
ĀDescription:
ĀThe Assistant Varsity/Junior Varsity Coach is responsible for helping each participating student achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem. The Assistant Varsity/Junior Varsity Coach reports to the Head Coach and Athletic Director.Ā
ĀResponsibilities:
ĀA. Administrative ResponsibilitiesĀ
ĀResponsible with Head Coach and Athletic Director for all matters relating to the organization, administration and philosophy of the sport under his/her direction.Ā
ĀServes in a leadership capacity to the community program.
ĀAssists the Head Coach in overseeingĀ the high school program in his/her sport.
ĀAdheres to the MIAA Coaches Guidebook and BPS Coaches Handbook; Acts as a positive role model on and off the court/field/site, etc
ĀCoaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
ĀMaintains competency in MIAA rules, event procedures, coaching techniques and general information about all aspects of the sport.
ĀWorks closely with the Head Coach and Athletic Director to schedule BPS facility use.
ĀSecures the Athletic Directorās approval before scheduling non-school facilities for off-campus activities.
ĀWorks with the coaches and/or Athletic Director to plan transportation and appropriate supervision at away contests in compliance with district travel policy and guidelines.Ā
ĀB. Record Keeping ResponsibilitiesĀ
ĀMaintains an accurate and current team & program roster and submits copies to the Athletic Office.
ĀDevelops a consistent and positive communications procedure through the school and media to inform the parents and the general public about his/her sport.
ĀMaintains accurate statistics, records, and results of the season.Ā
ĀArranges for the presentation of team awards through the Athletic Office.Ā
ĀRecords, submits and maintains necessary MIAA & BPS forms and paperwork.Ā
ĀC. Athletic Behavior/Eligibility ResponsibilitiesĀ
ĀEnforces all rules of the MIAA related to his/her sport.Ā
ĀEnforces and models discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and establishes and oversees penalties for breach of such standards by individual students.
ĀEnsures that no bullying/hazing occurs in his/her sport.
ĀEstablishes performance criteria for participation in interscholastic competition in his/her sport.Ā
ĀChecks with Athletic Office on individual athleteās eligibility.Ā
ĀEstablishes written program expectations.Ā
ĀEnforces schoolās academic expectations; partners with faculty to ensure that student-athletes are academically engaged and successful
ĀD. Injury/SafetyĀ
ĀCooperates with the Head Coach and Athletic Director to verify that no participant is issued equipment or allowed to practice until his/her physical examination and Baseline concussion testing has been completedĀ
ĀOversees the safety condition of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.Ā
ĀEnforces rules and regulations concerning conditioning of players and their health and safety.Ā
ĀReports injuries to the athletic trainer through personal communication, as well as completing and submitting incident reports to the athletic trainer and Athletic Office.Ā
ĀExercises great care in dealing with all injuries and particularly those that are of a serious nature. In all cases, the coach should assure that the injured athlete is receiving competent medical care. Following injuries of a serious or prolonged nature, the coach should make sure there is a signed approval of the doctor and parent before the student-athlete is allowed to participate in athletic activities.Ā
ĀProvides supervision of all athletes until they have left the building and/or site.Ā
ĀEnsures that all windows, doors, and gates are locked in any area that has been used.Ā
ĀE. Team ActivitiesĀ
ĀPlans all practice sessions and competitions, and supervises out-of-season conditioning program.Ā
ĀEnsures a positive environment free of hazing, harassment, bullying and intimidating language and behaviors.Ā
ĀF. Other dutiesĀ
ĀPerforms other duties as assigned.Ā
ĀAdditional Information:
ĀKnowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred or RequiredĀ
ĀValid teaching certificate and a bachelorās degree preferred.Ā
ĀFirst aid and CPR training required.Ā
ĀMIAAās Coaches Education Certification Level 1 or 2 certification required of new Varsity Head Coaches (effective 2016-2017).Ā
ĀExperience in teaching, coaching, and sports medicine preferred.Ā
ĀEffective oral and written communication skills.
ĀDemonstrate success in area of application.
ĀSport specific certifications preferred .
ĀPlaying experience preferred.
