Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Facility Manager, the Skating/Hockey Assistant Instructor is responsible for delivering quality instruction to participants in skating programs, providing excellent customer service, and assisting with special events as needed. The instructor must follow all guidelines, policies, and procedures outlined in the Glencoe Park District Personnel Manual and Weinberg Manual and is expected to maintain a professional demeanor at all times.


The Skating/Hockey Assistant Instructor position performs the duties outlined below. This part-time position typically requires working 5-20 hours per week.


Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 16 years old or older.
  • Have previous experience skating is required.
  • 1-2 years of coaching skating.
  • USFS/1S1/USA Hockey certification upon hire is preferred.
  • Must possess CPR/AED/First Aid Certification or willing to obtain within one month of hire.
  • All employees must pass a criminal background check, which the Glencoe Park District will cover.


Required Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of figure skating and hockey, including fundamental skating techniques, is required.
  • Understanding of the philosophy of public recreation, with the ability to communicate it effectively to others, is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Become familiar with all skating program policies and procedures and required record-keeping before the start of each session.
  • Provides instruction in skills according to lesson plans, professional organizations, and agency materials.
  • Assist in teaching all classes according to skating School curriculum guidelines and lesson Comply with all administrative/record-keeping requirements.
  • Assist with taking attendance for every skating Help make phone calls or emails to skating participants/parents if the class is canceled or if there are any customer service-related needs involving the skating program.
  • Arrives at the ice rink Center 30 minutes before the start of class.
  • Begin and end classes on Provides make-ups for any classes shortened due to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Limits the number of absences from class responsibilities and secures substitutes.
  • Handle all contact with the public patrons and staff pleasantly, courteously, and professionally.
  • Follow proper safety policies and Ensure they are implemented following the Glencoe Park District Safety Manual and immediately report any accidents, incidents, or violations.
  • This position requires a considerable variety of fairly steady active physical exertion with some lifting and/or continuous standing, walking, or Proficient skating skills are required.
  • The adaptability to an arena environment and the temperature variances within that environment are necessary.
  • Ability to respond to accidents of a minor nature requiring first aid.

Hours:

Due to the nature of Park District programming, evening, weekend, and some holiday hours are to be expected.


Pay Scale:

This is a seasonal part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. The intended starting pay for this position is $17 per hour, with a full pay scale ranging from $17 per hour to $20 per hour.


Final compensation will be determined in good faith based on an evaluation of the candidate's qualifications, experience, and the recommendation of the Facility Manager - Beach and Ice Rink, or the Assistant Director of Recreation and Facilities.
