POSITION: Summer Student, Hockey Operations, Men-POE

ABOUT THE ROLE

To provide administrative and logistical support to Managers and Directors within the Hockey Operations department, as assigned by the program.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE OVERALL MISSION OF HOCKEY CANADA

  • Work in tandem with the assigned Manager on assigned teams and programs. Support in the execution of camps, tournaments, and events.

  • Men’s U17 Team

  • Men’s U18 Team

  • National Junior Team

  • Support the Manager with preparation of core team logistics, including team signage, apparel and consumables, accommodations, meals, flights, Teamworks App, and other related duties to support the program

  • Coordinate assigned team and program preparation meetings, sharing agendas, and taking detailed notes as assigned

  • Assist in the coordination of apparel orders and apparel packing when requested

  • Provide on-site administrative and operational support to teams, athletes, staff, and management at camps, tournaments, and meetings

  • Administrative support to the Hockey Operations department as required, generally to the department as a whole, and specifically providing support to the Senior Vice President and Vice President

  • Specific responsibilities in the support of programs will be shared by the program manager when needed, and as needed

  • Work as a competent member of the team, willingly providing back-up support for colleagues when appropriate, as delegated, and actively supporting group goals

  • Maintaining confidentiality and integrity with sensitive information pertaining to athletes and staff

  • Ability to work solitarily or remotely with appropriate independence and the right amount of team reliance and collaboration

EXPERIENCE YOU’LL NEED

  • Currently a student in post-secondary education in sport administration, sport science, recreation, business administration or a relevant field

  • Some experience in administration or sport management

  • Strong working knowledge of the Hockey Canada/Membership structure

  • Knowledge of hockey development programming at the national, provincial, and local levels

  • Ability to balance a heavy and varied workload

  • Ability to make effective, quick decisions independently for the betterment of the team and program

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; promotes cooperation and commitment within a team to achieve goals and objectives

  • Demonstrated communication skills; ability to use a broad range of communication techniques to effectively communicate to varying audiences in a variety of situations

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills; ability to balance conflicting priorities in order to manage workflow, ensure the completion of essential projects, and meet deadlines

  • High level of integrity; earns others’ trust and respect through consistent honesty and professionalism in all interactions

  • Demonstrated high level of proficiency in Microsoft Programs, Outlook, and the ability to quickly adapt to new technology and easily acquire new technical skills

  • Completion of Hockey Canada’s comprehensive Screening Process, including but not limited too; Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Verification, and Social Media Screening

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Travel requirements are undefined, but a reasonable expectation of 15-30 days of domestic and/or international travel

  • Work Staggered hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary
