What is a Hockey Broadcast Operator?

If you answered yes, we have got just the opportunity for you at SportsMedia Technology (SMT) as a hockey broadcast operator for the 2025/26 NHL season.
As a Hockey Broadcast Operator, you will bring a passion for hockey and sports, novice technical experience, comfortability with Windows-based machines, and strong communication and customer service skills. Your role requires an exceptional attention span to simultaneously monitor computer applications, follow the events of the game without distraction, and effectively communicate with other team members and broadcast clients
This opportunity reports to SMT’s Remote Production Studio in Durham, NC and supports NHL broadcasts through broadcast graphics and data tracking features. You will be working directly with our puck- and player-tracking system to incorporate broadcast graphics and replay packages into broadcasts on ESPN, TNT and regional sports networks.
What is Your Daily Impact at SMT?
As a Hockey Broadcast Operator, you will report to our studio two hours before puck drop to check in for your assigned game. Game shifts are typically 5-6 hours. You will collaborate with our studio staff, on-site SMT personnel at the arena and our broadcast partners to ensure our technology is skating at full speed and ready to take the ice. We prep our operators on team specific insights and narratives to help producers tell their story for broadcast.

Operators typically work between 15-28 hours a week.
Flexible scheduling!
Most game shifts being are at night (Tuesday and Thursday are the most common) or on the weekend, perfect for the college student seeking sports or broadcast experience, or a hockey fan seeking their new side hustle.
A highly collaborative and supportive environment!
Our remote studio continues to expand and support other sports, high performing operators will be given the chance to work with different sports broadcasts.
