Summary
Chatham High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our athletic department as a Varsity Girls Hockey Coach. This full-time position requires a commitment to fostering a positive and competitive environment for student-athletes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in coaching, a deep understanding of the game, and a commitment to the development of young athletes both on and off the ice.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive training program that enhances the skills and performance of the varsity girls hockey team.
  • Plan and conduct daily practices, focusing on skill development, teamwork, and game strategy.
  • Organize and oversee all aspects of the varsity girls hockey program, including scheduling games and practices, coordinating travel, and managing equipment.
  • Foster a positive team culture that promotes sportsmanship, discipline, and respect among players.
  • Collaborate with the athletic director and other coaches to ensure alignment with the school’s athletic goals and policies.
  • Communicate effectively with players, parents, and school administration regarding team progress, expectations, and logistics.
  • Monitor and support the academic progress of student-athletes, ensuring they maintain eligibility and balance their commitments.
  • Attend coaching clinics and professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in coaching and player development.
  • Promote the varsity girls hockey program within the community to enhance visibility and support for the team.
  • Adhere to all state and national governing body rules and regulations regarding high school athletics.

Requirements

  • NJ Teaching Credential OR NJ Substitute Credential
  • Previous coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level, particularly in hockey, is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of hockey rules, strategies, and training techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with student-athletes, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes to achieve their personal and team goals.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively manage practices, games, and administrative responsibilities.
  • First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the season.
  • A commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive team environment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by the athletic schedule.

This is not a benefits eligible position.
