Girls Hockey Assistant Varsity Coach

Chatham High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our athletic department as an Assistant Varsity Coach for the Girls Hockey team. This seasonal position offers an exciting opportunity to work with young athletes, fostering their skills, teamwork, and love for the game. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hockey, an understanding of coaching principles, and a commitment to promoting sportsmanship and personal growth among student-athletes.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Coach in planning and implementing effective practice sessions and game strategies.
• Provide individual and team instruction to improve players’ skills and understanding of the game.
• Support the development of a positive team culture that emphasizes teamwork, discipline, and respect.
• Help organize and manage team logistics, including travel, equipment, and scheduling.
• Monitor the academic progress and well-being of student-athletes, promoting a balance between athletics and academics.
• Communicate effectively with players, parents, and school administration regarding team activities and expectations.
• Attend all practices, games, and team events, contributing to a cohesive coaching staff.
• Assist in the evaluation and recruitment of new players to the program.
• Uphold the values and policies of Chatham High School and the athletic department.

Requirements

• NJ Teaching Credential or NJ Substitute Credential, preferred.
• Previous experience playing or coaching hockey at a high school level or higher.
• Strong understanding of hockey rules, techniques, and strategies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
• Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Coach and other coaching staff.
• Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive team environment.
• First Aid and CPR certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
• Availability for the entire duration of the seasonal schedule, including evenings and weekends.
• A background check will be required prior to employment.

Salary: $6,215.80

This is not a benefits eligible position.
